After watching my brother Benjamin (who was 9 years old) at his first dance concert in
2010, it was the first time I had been to a dance concert and loved what
I saw. I decided there and then that's what I wanted to do.
Having lots of struggles in my life and after an accident at almost 4 years old I was diagnosed
with aspergers syndrome. I find that I have challenges every day to
over come but to
perform and able express myself through dance I knew was something I
would love to do. I have had no prior experience of dance or acrobatic
skills and had no idea how much work was involved.
So I started dancing in February 2011 with Jarrad Cramp Dance (JCDance). I was a month off being 13years old. It was really hard to start with, when I have started so late in my life. But I have persevered and tried very hard. I started doing grade 5 RAD Ballet, doing tap, Jazz and performance groups.
By the time 3rd term had just started I had broken my 5th metatarsal so I had to sit out for a whole term which drove me crazy as I had started getting a taste of being able to achieve some skills and getting more and more flexible.
One of the lovely parts I also love is going to eisteddfods meeting new friends who I can watch grow into lovely performers also.
I now live and breathe about dance constantly, it is a strong passion and love for performing and hope someday to dance as a career.
It has been a huge learning experience socially, emotionally, physically for me and have learnt so much already. I am very sure I have heaps more to learn and have an exciting ride ahead of me.
Thanks for reading
Katie Payne. :)
